What SLPs and audiologists miss in Colorado
- Colorado certifies SLPs through the Office of Speech-Language Pathology Certification and licenses audiologists through a separate office.
- Colorado counts professional development activities, not CE hours, and ASHA is not an approved deemed-status program.
- SLPAs are unregulated outside schools.
Can I practice in Colorado on an ASLP Compact privilege?
Colorado has enacted the ASLP Compact but is not issuing privileges yet. Until it does, practicing here takes a Colorado license, and a Colorado license does not yet give you a privilege anywhere else.

Does Colorado license SLP assistants?
SLPAs are not regulated in health care settings. In schools they need a Colorado Department of Education authorization: a bachelor's degree, a school SLPA program or equivalent and 100 practicum hours, and a supervisor should oversee no more than three.
- SLPAs are not licensed or registered
Special Services License, Speech-Language Pathologist or School Audiologist endorsement in Colorado
School SLPs hold a Colorado Department of Education special services license, earned with a master's and an eight-week school practicum, or through the CCC, a Colorado credential or another state license meeting compact standards. School audiologists need a doctorate. Renewal takes 90 clock hours every five years.

How often does a Colorado SLP or audiology license renew?
Colorado SLPs renew a certification, not a license. Starting with the first renewal they show continuing professional competency, usually a self-assessment, learning goals and 10 professional development activities per renewal period. ASHA participation does not count as deemed status.
